Cornwall Family 1: George and Margaret Clarke George 1603 is the son of Thomas and Mary Piper and the grandson of John and Frances Lamerton. He marries Grace Lamerton in 1633. Grace dies in 1634 and in 1653 George remarries, to Margaret Clarke in Marhamchurch. [It is possible that George is George 1612, the son of William and Johan Lamerton and the grandson of John Uglow and Elizabeth Uglow. Also these two marriages might be separate - George 1603 marrying Grace and George 1612 marrying Margaret. Dallas Manicom's entry on Rootsweb adopts the George 1603 solution ]
The existence of four of the siblings is derived from two scraps of evidence - firstly the will of Thomas and secondly a Launcells connection. Charlou Dolan has transcribed this will: Thomas mentions his wife, Grace and his brother George. We have a marriage for Thomas to Grace Bryant, also in Launcells. We have a George 1660 born in Launcells, just right to be a brother of Thomas. There are also two sisters mentioned, Avis? Sleeman and Hannah 'Tremble'. These look very similar to Amy and Hannah, for whom we have dates of marriages, both in Launcells. Family 1a: George and Martha Rowland George 1660 is the son of George and Margaret Clarke. [It is possible that this is George 1653 the son of Jasper and Mary Sheere in Holsworthy and the grandson of William and Johan from Marhamchurch but George 1660 is born and dies in Launcells - it is likely that he marries there as well...] George marries Martha Rowland in Launcells in 1683. In 1693 on 28th August, Hugh Mill of Sutcombe, gentleman and Elizabeth, his wife, leases property in Launcells Broadpark to George Uglow of Launcells, yeoman. George dies in 1736.
Family 1b: George and Jane Uglow George 1693 is the son of George and Martha Rowland and the grandson of George and Margaret Clarke. In 1727 George married a cousin, Jane Uglow 1693, the daughter of Thomas and Ann - Marhamchurch Family 8a. Jane's brother, John, dies in 1736 and mentions Jane and her two children. We know from John 1921 that the uncles and aunts of the children include Thomas, John, Martha Old, Mary Hobbs, Elizabeth Bryant who must be brothers and sisters of George and Jane. Jane dies, aged 53, in 1746 and is buried in Launcells. George dies in 1756
